Local, National, Global
For as long as The Plymouth Church has existed, we have sought to make real the promises of God, not just in our own lives, but in the world around us. From the abolitionists in the 1850’s to Civil Rights in the 1960’s, from our Open and Affirming covenant for the full inclusion of LGBTQ people to our commitments to Creation Care and Justice. We seek to live fully into the truth that every person has a place in God’s house and at Christ’s table.
Framingham and MetroWest
We support several local organizations and initiatives, with our time and our resources. Annually, we designate 5% of the financial support receive from our members for Outreach Grants. We also support with local shelters through quarterly gifts and monthly donation drives. Learn more about our Local Outreach here.
Africa Exchange Project
The Africa Exchange Project began as a ministry of the church and has grown into a 501(c)(3). We have over a ten-year relationship with the village of Pomerini, Tanzania. Our primary work is building relationships. All projects are chosen and carried out by the people whose lives we improve. Our projects include access to fresh water, improving healthcare, and investing in primary and secondary education. Learn more at www.africaexchangeproject.org.
Open and Affirming
After a two-year process of study, prayer, and discernment, the membership of The Plymouth Church voted to become Open and Affirming or “ONA.”
“We covenant as a congregation to welcome and celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer people into the full life of our church. We take this stance publicly and proudly, knowing that silence is inadequate to confront the violent theology that is widespread throughout the Christian church.”
Creation Care and Justice
We aim to answer the call to be better stewards of God’s creation. We are working to be the greenest church we can be, through education, advocacy, and service. We have made significant building improvements to decrease our carbon footprint. To learn more about our environmental efforts, visit out Green Church page.
Racial Justice
We are working to understand racism and white privilege — how it remains an active and corrosive force in America. We seek to know ourselves and our role more fully; and to develop relationships within and beyond the church to repair the damage done in the world.
